Blue Carbon Materials research and development team

Our Story

Founded in 2021, Blue Carbon Materials grew from the recognition that sargassum — a natural resource overwhelming Caribbean coastlines — could become the foundation for sustainable building materials and agricultural products. Since then, the company has moved from concept to active permitting and pilot operations.

Key milestones include filing a Letter of Intent with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), engaging with Puerto Rico's Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) and DDEC, and initiating field trials for biochar agricultural applications.

Blue Carbon Materials is establishing its first commercial facility in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, with plans for Caribbean-wide expansion following initial operations.
